I've been looking back and having similar thoughts. Think of the stories we were told in the 1970's about dangers we face -- often marketed as certain doom by the year 2000 on the basis of sophisticated models. Atomic war. Pollution. Overpopulation (now we learn of population colllapse). Global cooling (now global warming). Pandemics, from Aids to herpes. Resource shortages.

Now we hear of a new threats, but the public seems relucatant to buy in and mobilize -- despite the sophisticated models that forecast these dangers.
